There is something so dramatic yet elegant about both Monstera and Palm leaves. They make a statement without having to tell you. A handful is all you need to set the tone for a tropical affair. Like a Palm Springs themed shower that is bright, refreshing and effortless. But coupled with African influences, Palm Springs is elevated with bold ankara patterns, gilded animals and earthy tones creating a beautiful juxtaposition between airy yet rich.

5 Tips On How To Pray Effectively

Prayer is nothing new. Everyone has heard about prayer and to an extent everyone prays. Even unbelievers pray.  They just don’t know that they do. Have you ever been in a situation where you are suddenly frighten and you gasp, “Oh, Lord!” or “Oh, God!” Who are you speaking to?

    Not yourself.

And not your friend who’s standing next to you.

You’re speaking to God to help you. It’s an expression that is coming from your subconscious. Whether someone intends to or not, we are God’s created beings. There is an internal space that can’t be filled by anyone or thing except for Him. Periodically, an unbeliever’s being has to acknowledge its Creator in one way or the other. Sometimes, that’s in prayer. Prayer is intended for all of us. Done effectively, it is a powerful tool for a successful life. Having the ability to talk to an all-knowing God about anything is something we can’t take for granted.

    1. Just Speak (or Think)

There is a misconception that prayer has to be spoken in an elaborate way for it to be effective. That’s just not true. Prayer is simple. It’s just having a conversation with God. If you can speak with your friend, your parents, your child, and your pet, than you can speak to God. Just open your mouth and speak. There is no silly prayer. Nor is there an uneducated prayer. Start from where you are and the Holy Spirit will teach you what you should focus on. You don’t even need to speak. There are some people who were not born with the ability to speak that still pray through their thoughts. Sometimes, when I’m at work, at my desk, I’m praying through my thoughts. God still hears my thoughts just the same as if I spoke them. Communicate the best way you know how. However, just do it.

    2. Pray About Everything

There isn’t a certain topic you must pray at all times. God gives us the liberty to come to Him about any and everything. Be bold about your prayers. I try not to take my opportunity to pray for granted. I like to pray about everything that comes to mind when I’m before Him. When I wanted my hair to grow, I prayed about that. When I wanted a flatter stomach, I prayed about that. God is so in love with us that He wants to be apart of E.VER.Y aspect of our lives. I’m not going to let my limited understanding of how He works to restrict His answer to every question that I have.

Now that we know what we have—Jesus, this great High Priest with ready access to God—let’s not let it slip through our fingers. We don’t have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He’s been through weakness and testing, experienced it all—all but the sin. So let’s walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help.” (Hebrews 4:16 MSG)

Learn to unequivocally seek help and answers from God in every aspect of your life. Even the small crevices of it.

    3. There Is No Perfect Posture

There is a misconception that prayer always has to be on your knees. That’s just not true. When you’re having a conversation with your friend, are you always sitting, or always standing? No. So, why do we think we always have to be on our knees to converse with God? The Bible says,

pray all the time” (1 Thessalonians 5:17 MSG).

How can we pray when we’re lead to if it always has to be on our knees? I pray while showering, in the car, on the train, at work, standing in line, etc. I can pray sitting Indian style, laying on the floor, sitting in a chair, etc. Honestly, I rarely pray on my knees. For some reason, when I pray on my knees, I tend to fall asleep. That position is comfortable for me, so my body gets too relaxed and just shuts down. I used to get really upset with myself, because I found it difficult to pray even though I really wanted to. Than I realized, I need to just change my posture and it worked. God is not as strict as we make Him out to be. God can answer your prayer in any posture, as long as, you’re conversing with Him. I highly doubt God would refuse the prayers of a paraplegic, because they couldn’t get down on their knees.

    4. Pray In Details

When you pray, pray in details. Instead of praying, “Lord, I need a healing.” Rather pray, “Lord, I need a healing from diabetes or the scar from my past bad relationship.” We all need healing from something. It doesn’t have to be physical, it can be mental or emotional. You may have more than one thing you need to be healed from. So, if you don’t what you need a healing from, than how would you know He’s delivered you from it? God is a gentleman. He won’t overstep His boundaries if you don’t have the required faith that is necessary to receive it. Be specific.

    5. Use The Lord’s Prayer For Guidance

Jesus was asked, how should we pray and He said,

    In this manner, therefore, pray:

    v. 9 Our Father in heaven,
    Hallowed be Your name.
    v. 10 Your kingdom come.
    Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
v.11 Give us this day our daily bread.
v.12 And forgive us our debts,
    As we forgive our debtors.
    v. 13 And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. (Matthew 6:9-13 NKJV)

If we use the Lord’s prayer as a guide, we can find many topics to pray about. First, honor God: “Our Father in Heaven, hallowed be Your name.” Second, acknowledge His will for our lives and ask that He will make it come to pass: “Your kingdom come. Your will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.” Third, ask for provision to accomplish what He has willed for us to do: “Give us this day our daily bread.” Fourth, ask God to forgive our sins as we forgive others that have sinned against us: ” And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.” Fifth, ask for guidance and protection: “And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.” Lastly, acknowledge that God is powerful and glorious: “For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.” See how many prayer points you have with just the Lord’s prayer? Jesus gave us a guide, so let’s use it for our benefit.

I’m curious, how do you pray?

    5 Elegant Crochet Inspired Updos

In my quest to find a manageable protective style, I decided to give crochet braids a try. However, instead of embarking on the original process, I decided to create a crochet wig. I wanted to be able to have access to my natural hair effortlessly without the extensive process of taking out cornrows, etc. to expose my natural hair. The result was gorgeous! I loved the wig and I constantly got compliments. Now, I want to take it a step further and find ways to transform a crochet wig with an elegant updo. Here’s some inspiration.
